Hello, I’m Moreen

I am a Hellenistic Astrology who recently converted from a “Modern” Astrologer (3 years). Since completing Chris Brennan’s course and using this approach with clients I am very excited about the insights the ancients were able to see in charts. I still employ the outer planets and my insights I learned while practising Modern Evolutionary Astrology.

My journey with astrology has been a long one, so here it goes!

It began in the early 1970’s in Vancouver, and believe it or not, my introduction into astrology wasn’t by choice. You know, like, some people might be reading their sun sign column in the local newspaper magazine and get curious and kind of go into it from that point of view. That’s not how I got started. It was by a chance meeting of a student of astrology who I believe was curious to see my chart. I agreed to give this person my data: time, date and place of birth.

What happened next was a trip to the local metaphysical book store, because to calculate a chart before computers, was this incredibly complicated bit of math and required reference books, so off to Banyan Books we went. He sat down with the reference books and a calculator, calculated my chart.

He drew up a picture, a circle with lines and funny looking symbols and other lines connecting those symbols – he looked at it for a few minutes, and then handed it to me. As anyone who has consulted an astrologer or a psychic or a card reader or a numerologist, one does sort of expect to be given some information at the end. So of course, I’m waiting in anticipation of the big reveal…

Then when he handed me my chart drawn up on a piece of paper he said that I should learn to read the chart myself! Talk about disappointment and frustration. In the back of my mind I was thinking, does this mean it says I’m gonna die in the next week or something? After many attempts to get him to explain it or say something to me, he remained adamant that I needed to learn it myself and recommended a book.

My early journey was a bit daunting. When you are studying on your own and you don’t have anyone to  bounce questions of off, remember this is the time of no internet and definitely no Google, you can get quite frustrated. Lucky for me, in the 1980’s, astrology conferences were coming on strong and it was there where I found “my people”. It was magical time, walking into a room where everywhere spoke the language. I found myself going to lectures and dinners with authors of the books I had been reading.

I began going to NORWAC in Seattle regularly, which is still an annual event, and I was able to see that the language of astrology is one full of humour and humility. And those who spoke fluently could speak to clients in a way that was profound. I went professional in 1988 and continued until 2003.

In 2003 I took a break to do personal work and ended up not pursing Astrology until 2019 by which time the Hellenistic world had become part of the main stream. I dove right in!
